Designed
to give teachers support and guidance in a number of subject- and topic-based
modules aligned closely with the National Curriculum, Espresso Education
has launched its online guide to how the 'Espresso for Primary Schools'
service supports the Qualifications and Curriculum Authority (QCA) schemes
of work. Located within the unique Espresso 'Staffroom' - which teachers
can access from any Espresso screen via the 'coffee cup' icon - the
facility enables teachers to access exceptional guidance and additional
resources for curriculum modules.
Once in the Espresso Staffroom, teachers have access to a wealth of easy-to-understand tables which list the resources within the Espresso service that can be used to teach specific QCA units. Each unit has links that take users directly to the relevant resources, which include topical full screen video footage, relevant web sites and stimulating multimedia classroom activities.
The Staffroom is also an information channel for Local Education Authorities to communicate their latest policies and initiatives as well as information such as job vacancies.
Catharine Slade, ex-teacher and Senior Producer, Espresso Education, said:
Espresso's 'Staffroom' facility informs teachers how its service fulfils the QCA objectives, and provides links to the relevant resources, helping to raise standards in the classroom whilst saving teachers time and helping then get back to teaching.
Currently providing its broadband educational content to over 450 schools in England and Wales, the Espresso Staffroom facility is available to all teachers whose schools subscribe to the service. Created alongside teachers and advisors, Espresso is an integrated learning package which is easy to use and quick to navigate. The motivating and focused curriculum material - which is updated every week - links to a wide selection of media with the latest news and feature stories from television and the Internet.
Unlike other educational content providers, Espresso avoids the frustration of download delays on the Internet and CD-ROM's by using satellite technology to deliver its weekly information updates to schools. A satellite dish and Espresso box - costing £1875 - are required to receive and store the information. For the average Primary School a subscription fee from £6 per pupil is payable yearly.
