Espresso signs a landmark distribution agreement with the London Grid for Learning

15th July 2002

Pioneering educational suppliers will be the first company to supply resources to the capital's regional broadband grid

Espresso Education and the London Grid for Learning (LGfL) have signed an innovative distribution agreement that enables all 2,700 London schools to use Espresso's unique educational resources.

With thanks to Woodfield Special School

In the Grid's very first agreement made with a supplier of educational content, Espresso Education and the LGfL (www.lgfl.net) will jointly develop educational content designed to specifically meet the needs of London pupils. In addition, Espresso Education's unique curriculum resource service will be provided to all London schools as they are connected to the LGfL network. Schools will receive the material free for a full term thanks to a subscription pre-payment made by the LGfL. After the initial term, schools connected to the LGfL will qualify for an LGfL negotiated subscription fee.

Espresso Education's video-rich material is the best example of the new services that schools will be able to access thanks to the broadband network being delivered by the London Grid for Learning. By leveraging the broadband connections, the distribution deal with Espresso will eliminate the need for London schools to have a satellite dish to receive Espresso.

Created alongside teachers and advisors, Espresso is an integrated learning package that is easy to use and quick to navigate. The motivating and focused curriculum material - updated every week - links to a wide selection of media with the latest news and feature stories from television and the Internet.

CEO of Espresso Education and founder of the innovative curriculum providers, Lewis Bronze, commented:

This agreement will deliver world-class content to a world-class city. I am truly delighted that the excellence of Espresso content is being recognised by the largest educational network in Europe. This deal shows that Espresso is the UK's leading content provider. Our innovative and flexible approach means that our 1,300 video clips - already matched to the needs of teachers delivering the national curriculum - will be instantly available to London schools.

LGfL Chief Executive Brian Durrant, said:

The Espresso service provides lively, relevant and high-quality on-line learning resources which are well regarded by London teachers and can justifiably be accredited as 'broadband'. LGfL has been pleased to act on behalf of all London's LAs and their schools to negotiate a partnership with Espresso which will in the first instance provide every London school with a substantial 'free' opportunity to experience Espresso when the school gets connected to the Grid and subsequently to benefit from a unique LGfL half-price deal for a full year's subscription.

David Mason, Chair of the London Grid for Learning Editorial Board, said:

LGfL believes Espresso to be a quality broadband product that schools will see as an invaluable aid to teaching and learning.
