9th January 2008
We're starting off the year by promoting a world-record poetry reading attempt, organised by Great Ormond Street Hospital and based on Peter Pan. We encourage Espresso schools to participate!
Peter Pan Week 2008 is a fundraising event organised by the Great Ormond Street Hospital Children's Charity (GOSHCC). Learn more by visiting www.peterpanweek.co.uk
It is a unique event because it is the Charity's first attempt to set a Guinness World Record, for which 250,000 children and young people are needed to help. The World Record attempt is called the Big Time Rhyme.
Peter Pan Week isn't simply about fundraising, it is also an opportunity to share the fabulous Peter Pan story and learn about the Great Ormond Street Hospital for Children.
Peter Pan Week starts on Monday 3rd March 2008. The Big Time Rhyme starts at 9.15am on Friday 7th March.
The Big Time Rhyme will bring together thousands of children across Britain, in a mass poetry reading. If the participants are successful, they will all become Guinness World Record holders!
Geraldine McCaughrean’s official sequel to JM Barrie’s Peter Pan, is called Peter Pan in Scarlet. The poem for the Big Time Rhyme will be read aloud from this new book.
The readings will take place separately at schools and youth groups. It is hoped that this group will become the largest number of people reading the same piece of poetry aloud at the same time.
