Espresso supports Great Ormond Street Hospital’s ‘Peter Pan Week 2008’

Peter Pan Week 2008

We're starting off the year by promoting a world-record poetry reading attempt, organised by Great Ormond Street Hospital and based on Peter Pan. We encourage Espresso schools to participate!

What is Peter Pan Week 2008?

Peter Pan Week 2008 is a fundraising event organised by the Great Ormond Street Hospital Children's Charity (GOSHCC). Learn more by visiting www.peterpanweek.co.uk

It is a unique event because it is the Charity's first attempt to set a Guinness World Record, for which 250,000 children and young people are needed to help. The World Record attempt is called the Big Time Rhyme.

Peter Pan Week isn't simply about fundraising, it is also an opportunity to share the fabulous Peter Pan story and learn about the Great Ormond Street Hospital for Children.

When is Peter Pan Week 2008?

Peter Pan Week starts on Monday 3rd March 2008. The Big Time Rhyme starts at 9.15am on Friday 7th March.

What is the Big Time Rhyme?

The Big Time Rhyme will bring together thousands of children across Britain, in a mass poetry reading. If the participants are successful, they will all become Guinness World Record holders!

Geraldine McCaughrean’s official sequel to JM Barrie’s Peter Pan, is called Peter Pan in Scarlet. The poem for the Big Time Rhyme will be read aloud from this new book.

The readings will take place separately at schools and youth groups. It is hoped that this group will become the largest number of people reading the same piece of poetry aloud at the same time.

How can my school take part?

Schools can register on the Peter Pan Week website now (www.peterpanweek.co.uk). Special 'Booty Bag' toolkits will be supplied to help participants get organised. These include colourful wall posters, a practice sheet for the Big Time Rhyme poetry reading and ideas for Peter Pan Week lessons and fundraising activities.
