The new Espresso for Schools news and curriculum service will be launched
at BETT 2000. This unique service brings full-screen video to computer desktops,
thanks to its broadband delivery over satellite or cable. Two years in development,
the service is unlike anything you have seen before:
- There is special emphasis on literacy and numeracy, with video-rich modules
to support the implementation of the Numeracy Literacy and Numeracy Strategies.
- There is masses of full-screen video instantly available.
- There are dozens of specially-selected websites downloaded every week
to schools, so they are instantly available in lessons or for teacher planning.
- The real world is constantly and immediately used to support the curriculum
- in the past few months, Espresso has delivered and updated modules on
the war in Kosovo, the Eclipse, and the Cricket and Rugby World Cups.
- Teaching concepts is reinforced through the focussed use of familiar TV
programmes - like Tomorrow's World and Top of the Pops. In addition, Espresso
is pioneering the use of digital media to create local content, bringing
alive assets held by museums and libraries to create exciting new classroom
resources.
At BETT 2000, Espresso announces:
- Partnership with the Regional Broadband Grid for the North of England
- A major commercial partnership with Birmingham - the largest metropolitan
authority in England
- The launch of a new Key Stage 2 maths module built around the BBC's Ready,
Steady Cook!, a new news service from the Daily Telegraph's T2 section,

Wednesday afternoons. It is stored on the school network, and is available at
any time. Espresso will be happy to put recognised journalists writing BETT
previews in touch with LA Advisors who have hands on experience of Espresso.
If you would like to see Espresso in action, then please contact us before
writing your preview, and we will try and organise a schools visit, or send
you some sample material.
If you have not seen Espresso for Schools, then you have
not seen what digital media can do in the classroom.
