Our curriculum development team is introducing many new innovative and exciting features to the service to help teachers and pupils maximise their use of the resources delivered each week to their school.
Every school term week Espresso subscribers receive new modules, curriculum-related news stories and educational websites (see our weekly newsletter to find out what's in the latest broadcast). Here's some of the new resources we have created over the last term to add value to the Espresso service.
ModulesEspresso modules are substantial collections of resources covering a particular curriculum topic. Our modules feature full-screen video, plus multimedia activities, printable worksheets, useful websites, and many other resources. Egyptians (History KS2)
This module has been put together to support teachers working on QCA unit 10. Like other Espresso History modules the emphasis is on collaborative learning and helping children develop the key skill of historical enquiry. Ourselves Part II - All about me (PSED Foundation)
The module features engaging videos with children’s voices introducing many of the key ideas and photo books explaining special days from different cultures. New picture books featuring the Espresso family of characters provide starting points for discussions related to families, friends and feelings. Everyday English (English 1 & 2)
This module brings together existing Espresso resources on the alphabet, numbers, colours and days of the week. Provided in a self-contained learning environment, children are able to explore resources independently with the support of graphics and sound files. New features which help teachers and pupils maximise their use of the resources delivered each week to their school.
The Assembly resource continues to grow with the recent addition - Volunteers
Week, reflecting upon current and topical issues.
The Assemblies has been designed for easy use whether a class assembly is being led by a teacher or child.
Combined with the use of projection facilities, the Assemblies module can be used within school halls for an entire school assembly. The Assemblies use a selection of videos suitable for both key stages, to encourage children to think about issues of moral, personal and social significance.
A key feature of Espresso is our unique ability to provide topical news items on a weekly basis. To assist teachers to integrate the News Service as a regular weekly activity, we have put together eight 'Best Practice Videos' of real lessons in action.
In addition, teachers can share their own ideas and experiences in the Community Area, further contributing to the wealth of useful information and support specifically for teachers.
StaffroomSupport information for teachers, including lesson plans which show how Espresso can be used to meet National Curriculum requirements, plus links to national frameworks for literacy, numeracy and QCA schemes. PPA time – Teacher Support The introductions highlight tools, planning elements and ways to use Espresso with other software to help teachers to personalise learning and save time when planning lessons.
